This post was edited by mohit1281 at 14:24, Sep-21-2014 Are you angry that punjabi/gujarati fonts are not displayed in Browser, whatsapp, facebook, twitter etc? Here I am giving you the solution to your problem: Requirements: First Root your Mi3 / Redmi 1S phone (Note: Developer Roms already have root privileges. So root/unroot steps are not applicable for Developer Roms.If you have installed a ROM of developer version then you just have to perform the steps for installation of fonts) Instructions for rooting Redmi 1S: Please visit following thread posted by @AndroidFuchs for rooting instructions: en.miui.com/thread-21881-1-1.html From above thread download root (update.zip) and unroot (UnRootNative_Redmi1S.zip) files. I have tested these files on Redmi 1S MIUI Global ROM JHCMIBF36.0. After downloading these two files follow instructions for Mi 3 rooting (Step No. 2 onwards) Instructions for rooting Mi3: Thanks to @Crescentwind for providing the easiest Method on: How to ROOT / UNROOT your Mi3W Build 15, 18, 19, 22 and 23 (INDIA) at below address: http://en.miui.com/thread-33210-1-1.html For newbs below are the steps for rooting/unrooting to be followed: Warning: Rooting means playing with the system files critical to the device running. Don't try this if you don't understand the procedure, otherwise it may brick your phone. If anything unexpected happens to your phone then you and you only will be responsible for the results. Hence read all the instructions carefully before commencing. Step1: Download Root/unroot files for the MIUI version installed in your Mi3 from the Crescentwind's thread: http://en.miui.com/thread-33210-1-1.html Step2: Open updater Below window will open by clicking updater icon Now click the menu button (left to home button) of Mi3. Below options will appear Step 3: Click select update package. On clicking explorer will open. You have to go to the folder where root/unroot files are saved. Mine files were stored in download folder: Step 4: Select root (zip) file. On selecting the file below window will open: click update: Again click update and root file will be updated: Let the updating complete and reboot once completed. Step 5: On rebooting click Security icon: Below window will open: Click Permissions. Below window will open: Check root permission as shown in the above figure. Well done!!! You now have root permissions on your Mi3. (Note: For unrooting follow the above steps with slight modification. In Step 4 select Unroot (zip) file instead of Root (zip) file. Rest everything is same and your phone will be unrooted. But you should not unroot before completing below instructions for installing the fonts) Instructions for Punjabi/Gujarati font installation (after successful rooting Mi3/Redmi 1S): 1. Download Lohit Punjabi and Lohit Gujarati font from the attachment and you will have Lohit-Gumukhi.zip and Lohit-Gujarati.zip file in file manager/download folder. Extract these file using rar application. You will now have a Lohit-Gurmukhi.ttf and Lohit-Gujarati.ttf files. 2. Download ES file Explorer and from the top left side go in tools and turn on Root Explorer. (See Images) 3. Mount System as R\W by clicking on Root Explorer so that you can Overwrite/Copy to and fro from System folders. 4. Copy the downloaded Lohit-Gurmukhi.ttf and Lohit-Gujarati.ttf files (as per step 1) to /system/fonts folder. (See image how to go in system folder: Click on Device in Local menu) 5. Change Permissions for Lohit-Gurmukhi.ttf and Lohit-Gujarati.ttf from -rw-rw---- to -rw-r--r-- by just hold Lohit-Gurmukhi.ttf and Lohit-Gujarati.ttf file for 1-2 second and go in properties (in More.. top right bottom) 6. Go in /system/etc/fallback-fonts.xml file and open by using ES Note Editor 7. Click on 3 Dots and select Edit Insert a new XML node at the end for the Punjabi/Gujarati font. Insert it before family node of Droidsansfallback.ttf The code is: Hidden content<family><fileset> <file>Lohit-Gurmukhi.ttf</file> </fileset> </family> <family> <fileset> <file>Lohit-Gujarati.ttf</file> </fileset> </family> 8. Save and Restart your phone. (Note: Below steps i.e. Steps 9 onwards are necessary to be performed. Otherwise whatsapp and facebook apps will not display punjabi/gujarati fonts) 9. On Restart Go to Themes in MIUI and in Category Tab click on components link at the bottom 10. In Components menu click on Fonts: 11. In Fonts download IOS6_V5 and apply the same (I have tried this only, you can try more.. if you want ) 12. Done Now you will be able to view punjabi/gujarati fonts everywhere..in browsers, applications like whatsapp, facebook, twitter etc. Enjoy and please don't forget to share your experience, please reply if it works for you or not .. P.S. If you want to recieve OTA updates you will have to Unroot Mi3. Please follow the steps explained above for unrooting. Once unrooted you will recieve OTA updates.
